New Year, New Posts

Today is the second day where I am completely free without any responsibilities (perks of unemployment).

I’m already bored. Well, in the sense that I feel like I have nothing to look forward to even if it’s the typical 9-5 job. However, hopefully while looking for a job, I hope to accomplish several things. I recently discovered Los Angeles’ Official Visitor’s Site which is surprisingly, full of updated information on what to do in Los Angeles. Things like walking tours (self guided), scenic drives, free museums, I’d like to check out all of that while bringing my camera along so I can take pictures. My newest layout, which is just a simple design is almost done. Just need to update the single posts page, comments area and fine tune the minor details. Hopefully I can have it up by the end of this week. I would also like to redo the header image but won’t if I can’t think of anything.

Photowalk

I went to Newport Pier on Sunday with Norma, Brian (and his son, Rex), Bryan, Cody and Jay and walked around taking some pictures. I got some decent pictures and will upload it to my flickr account after I process some of the photos. So far, I’m still taking at least one picture a week, hopefully my skills will improve. I am going to go with my friend Chris on Thursday to walk around downtown LA to shoot come pictures. Probably pass by Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels, Walt Disney Concert Hall and Museum of Contemporary Art, the idea coming from here.

Other things I’d like to do are take a scenic drive on Mulholland Drive which is apparently has a gorgeous view and just wonder around Griffith Park (largest city park in the country) and maybe check the observatory while I’m at it. Hey, I’m unemployed, I have all the time in the world!

Site needs to change

Man, every time I look at my site, I realize it needs changing. I actually just want to redo everything and remove all unused sections and have a clean center column blog with minimal design accompanied with big and bright colors to change it up a bit.

Contact form and comments working. Didn’t realize neither worked. I really should put some more time into my website, it’s always neglected like the red headed step child.

WordPress 2.5 is a nice change

Oh man, for some reason I decided to check wordpress.org today and noticed they came out with 2.5. Since I have heard a lot of rave about it and saw that they redesigned the administrative panel, I decided to upgrade.

Boy, I am happy, best new feature I discovered is the gallery, no more need for gallery plugins or addons, this seems to integrate straight into wordpress. Now, I hope none of hacks/plugins are broken.

One thing I noticed as I am using the admin panel now, is I want to be able to change the categories so it is to the right of the text box like it was before. I have a large monitor and there is a lot of unused space to my right.

Tumblelogs

I have been recently working on a converting this blog to a tumblelog (ex: projectionist) which is essentially a minimalist blog for random media and postings. I would use sites like tumblr.com but I want comments for some reason. So using wordpress as the backend, I am hacking up a theme to meet my needs, which is to have a normal blog, cut out of a lot of the unnecessary metadata and enable comments. Like a tumbleblog with more emphasize on the blog. And since I already begun work on it, all i can say is that having not messed around with css for 2+ yrs, it is hard as hell to remember how to do the simplest things. I had to look up how to do something simple like vertical align on text.

Well, I am back after a long hiatus. After my host’s hard drive crashed I thought everything was lost until I remember I had a cron job running everyday that made a backup of my databases everyday. So luckily for me, I didn’t lose much. Stay tune for updates.

Also, for the people that linked me before, let me know if you have a new site cause I just cleaned out my links and deleted all the ones that didn’t work.

CSS Reboot

I think I am going to participate in the css reboot. It’s basically a day when a group of people release “web standards-based redesigns simultaneously, bringing traffic, interest and a little respect to their sites.”

Man, coming back from Taiwan after spending a month on this chinese cultural study program dubbed “loveboat,” you figured I would be occupied for at least two weeks. Nope, after a few days I started getting bored. Although I uploaded the pictures of my trip (on bottom right, set it to date taken and ascending so you can see it in order) and have talked to all my friends and family about my trip, that only kept me occupied for the first week. So for the past weeks I have been back, I have been staying up late (3-4AM) reading Harry Potter (books 3-5), chatting with my loveboat friends online whom I miss so fucking much and hanging out with Norma, Sean and Roy.

Oh and cooking. Ever since I got back I have started cooking so since I like eating and it’s fun to do. This doesn’t constitute as “cooking” but Sean, Roy and I had Hot Dog Rollups which are essentially hot dog wrapped in bacon, wrapped in beef and cheese which is soaked in egg. The hot dog rollups were SO DAMN GOOD even though I felt my heart stopping for a minute. I also made some Italian dishes throughout these two weeks and tonight I finished baking my first cake.

Ya, life is back to normal. I do however felt the urge to do some designing so I might get back to the template I was working on before I left. here’s a little peak at it.

Ya, I will be working on that for a bit. Don’t even have a title for it yet.

On the eighth, I had my UCLA orientation and man I am going to be so screwed. I have to take out so much in loans since I don’t want my parents helping me and then my class schedule is still being worked on since I practically got last pick but I did however get my apartment/townhouse. Two bedrooms and two 1/2 bathrooms and sharing it with only one person. Kickass.

School itself doesn’t start until 9/29 so I think I will go back to LBCC and see if I can get a job for a month. I know my ex-boss pretty well and he thinks I am a good responsible guy so I think I can get a job. If not, this is going to be a long ass month.

I am back from Taiwan after spending a month there on this study program unofficially named loveboat.

I am also not going to be blogging as much anymore since I don’t have the energy to do so. I will only blog when I update the site or when I have something big to announce.

Hey, I am sort of back from my hiatus. I will be leaving the country this Friday. First week will be touring Thailand and the whole month of July I will be in Taiwan. Don’t worry, i will be updating my photo gallery and this blog as much as I can since I get internet access every once in a while.

As for my site updates, this site won’t be modified in terms of looks and coding until I get back.
